Established in 2020, the Department of Chemistry at Alipurduar University began its academic journey by offering Undergraduate (Honours and Program) and Master of Science (M.Sc.) courses, covering all major branches of chemistry- Inorganic, Organic, and Physical Chemistry. The Department has since grown into a dynamic and expanding academic unit, committed to delivering high-quality education and fostering a vibrant learning environment. It also offers a Ph.D. program in various specialized areas of Chemistry, further enhancing its academic scope. Research is a key focus of the department. Faculty members are actively involved in cutting-edge research projects, many of which are sponsored by national agencies. Their work has resulted in a significant number of publications in reputed journals, and they have earned several prestigious awards in recognition of their scientific contributions. The Department currently has five regular faculty members and two state-aided faculty members, all of whom are deeply engaged in both teaching and research. The department has a library in addition to the central library of the University. Regular seminars, workshops, and guest lectures are organized to promote scholarly exchange and expose students to current developments in the field. Student performance is continuously monitored and assessed through class tests, assignments, and end-semester examinations to ensure academic excellence.

Welcome to the Department of Chemistry at Alipurduar University, West Bengal, India. We are a vibrant and forward-looking department committed to excellence in teaching-learning and research. Our mission is to spark curiosity, encourage innovative thinking, and support the growth of future scientists in a dynamic academic environment. Students at all levels- undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral- benefit from hands-on learning and close mentorship by experienced faculty engaged in impactful, real-world research. From foundational studies to advanced research, our programs are designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed for success in academia, industry, and beyond. Our Ph.D. program places special focus on sustainable, solution-driven research that addresses potential applications in modern scientific and environmental challenges. We warmly welcome bright, motivated students to join us at the undergraduate, postgraduate, or doctoral levels. We also invite exceptional young researchers to collaborate with our faculty as we strive to make meaningful contributions to the field of Chemistry.

To enhance the recognition of our institution nationally and internationally by maintaining the Outcome Based Education (OBE) in chemistry.
To build a strong relationship with society by solving real problems using fresh minds loitering around different avenues of Chemical sciences.

To provide the best education in chemistry by implementing ICT-enhanced pedagogies in teaching and encouraging young minds to discover their aptitudes both in theory and practical chemistry with real-life applications.
To develop our chemistry laboratory with all the modern facilities and instruments to promote an environment of research in chemistry.
To provide all the facilities to encourage students toward research in Chemistry in their future education after UG as well as to groom them professionally, morally and ethically.
To train students about ‘Green Laboratory Practices’ by applying Green Chemistry Principles in their regular practical classes as well as to encourage their ability to think about global climate change issues.
To implement more Outcome Based Education (OBE) in chemistry.
To provide a better understanding of the multidisciplinary approach of the curriculum of CBCS by organizing more and more Intercollege as well as Interdepartmental Faculty Exchange Programmes.
To build up the society-industry-college tripartite link-up envisioning widespread benefits of Chemistry education.
